BIO
Justin Maxon was born (1983) and raised in Humboldt, California. He went to school at San Francisco State University and is currently based out of Philadelphia, PA.
He is mainly interested in pursuing long-term projects that examine the complexities of human struggle. Currently he is working in Chester, PA where he's exploring the importance of religious faith in overcoming community challenges like gang violence, high levels of pollution, and a defective school system.
Maxon has received numerous awards for his photography, from competitions like UNICEF Images of the Year, Alexia Grant Foundation, POYi, NPPA's Best of Photojournalism, and the Photo District News. He won first place in the 2007 World Press Photo Daly Life Singles category, along with winning the Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year at the 2008 Lucie Awards. Most recently, he was named one of
PDN's 30 Emerging Photographers to Watch.
His clients include TIME, Newsweek, Fader Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, NPR, and UNICEF.
