  • Kingston Fossil Plant is a Tennessee Valley Authority coal-burning power plant located in Roane County, just outside Kingston, Tennessee on Watts Bar Lake. The coal plant was known for being one of the largest in the world at one time and recently in 2009 released a major ash spill contaminating the surrounding areas water supply. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingston_Fossil_Plant_coal_fly_ash_slurry_spill ) Kingston coal plants generate roughly 8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, enough to power over 500,000 homes.
